Tanghulu is a traditional Chinese snack consisting of sugar-coated hawthorns and other fruits or vegetables skewered on a stick. It has been a beloved treat since the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279). A ubiquitous sight on winter streets, tanghulu comes in various varieties and carries the cherished childhood memories of many people in China.
